BYD has officially launched its new compact SUV, the BYD Sealion 05 DM-i in China, featuring the 5th-generation DM plug-in hybrid system. This new SUV is priced between 112,800 to 142,800 yuan (approximately $15,980 to $20,230 USD, or PKR 4.4 million to 5.5 million), with four variants available. The Sealion 05 DM-i will be marketed through BYD’s Ocean Network, similar to the BYD Song Pro DM-i.

Key Features:
- Battery Options: It offers two types of lithium iron phosphate batteries with capacities of 12.9 kWh and 18.3 kWh, providing a pure electric range of 75 km and 115 km, respectively, based on the CLTC cycle.
- Hybrid Powertrain: Powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 74 kW (99 hp), combined with an electric motor that generates 120 kW (160 hp), all part of BYD’s 5th-gen DM hybrid system.
- Fuel Efficiency: In low battery mode, the car consumes as little as 3.79 L/100 km (NEDC), and between 4.85-4.9 L/100 km in the WLTC cycle. It offers an E-CVT transmission for smooth performance and a total range of up to 1,400 km.
- Design and Interior: The Sealion 05 DM-i adopts BYD’s “Ocean Aesthetics” design language with a wide front grille, integrated air intakes, and an overall mid-size SUV profile. The interior features a fully digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen, wireless charging, NFC key access, and physical controls on the center console.
- Comfort and Utility: The SUV comes with electric seat adjustment for both the driver and front passenger, a panoramic sunroof, and orange and blue stitching that adds a premium feel. It offers 407 liters of cargo space, which expands to 1,430 liters when the rear seats are folded down.
- Practicality: The Sealion 05 DM-i supports 3.3kW external power output, making it convenient for outdoor activities or emergency power needs.
This new launch reflects BYD’s focus on combining fuel efficiency, modern hybrid technology, and practical features, making the Sealion 05 DM-i a competitive option in the compact SUV market.
