At least 15 people have been killed in a tragic bus crash in northeastern Brazil. The accident occurred late Friday in the state of Pernambuco when a passenger bus lost control and overturned on a highway.
Police said the vehicle was carrying around 30 passengers when it veered off its lane, hit rocks, and flipped onto its side. Most of the victims died at the scene, while several others were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.
According to officials, the bus was traveling from the neighboring state of Bahia toward Pernambuco. Investigators are examining whether the crash was caused by speeding, driver fatigue, or a possible mechanical failure.
Authorities confirmed that the driver survived the crash with minor injuries and tested negative for alcohol. Rescue teams and local emergency workers reached the site quickly to assist the wounded and clear the wreckage.
Road safety experts say traffic accidents are a major concern in Brazil, with thousands of deaths reported annually. The government has promised a full investigation into the incident to determine responsibility.
