The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) announced that a total lunar eclipse, also being referred to as a rare blood moon event, will be visible across Pakistan on the night of September 7. The eclipse will begin at 8:30 pm and reach its peak at 1:55 am when the Earth’s shadow fully covers the moon.
The celestial sight will also be visible in parts of Asia, Africa, and Europe. In Pakistan, most regions are expected to have a clear view of the blue moon, provided weather conditions remain favorable.
SUPARCO explained that a lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes between the sun and the moon, casting its shadow across the lunar surface. Unlike solar eclipses, the blood moon eclipse can be safely observed without any protective equipment, though binoculars and telescopes can enhance visibility.
Astronomy clubs and educational groups are arranging special observation activities for the public. SUPARCO will also share images and live updates of the blood moon eclipse on its official social media platforms.
