Black partridge breeders have called on the Government of Punjab to reinstate the suspended licensing system for keeping the birds, during a protest staged in Muzaffargarh.
According to reports, bird enthusiasts gathered for a rally led by Asif Nadeem, President of the Black Partridge Association Pakistan. Demonstrators held banners and placards highlighting their demands and voicing opposition to the suspension of licenses.
Addressing participants, Asif Nadeem stated that raising black partridges is deeply connected to Punjab’s cultural traditions. He noted that breeders throughout the province are protesting the government’s decision to halt the issuance and renewal of licenses required to keep the birds.
He further explained that the restriction has been enforced only in Punjab. While authorities have stopped issuing new permits and renewing existing ones in the province, licensing procedures remain active in other parts of the country.
Nadeem emphasized that breeders have been carefully raising rare black partridges in their homes for years with the aim of increasing their population, not harming them. He added that owners treat the birds with great care and dedication, claiming their efforts contribute to cultural preservation and species conservation.
The association urged Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, and provincial wildlife officials to restore the licensing process rather than penalize breeders.
