Bilawal Supports PTI's Call For May 9 Probe

In Islamabad, Bilawal Bhutto, the former foreign minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, expressed his support for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which is demanding an inquiry into the events of May 9. Speaking during the second session of the National Assembly, Bhutto emphasized the importance of addressing the brutal attacks on state institutions and monuments of martyrs that occurred during the protests.

The Oxford graduate leader specifically referred to PTI’s Gandapur, who called for an inquiry into the May 9 protest in his speech. Bilawal proposed that a judicial commission should investigate the matter, and all stakeholders should agree to accept the findings of the commission. He stated that resolving the issues surrounding May 9 is crucial for advancing politics in the country and urged Prime Minister Shehbaz to establish a commission led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

Bilawal Bhutto mentioned his willingness to stand with the PTI if the former ruling party agrees to respect the findings of the judicial commission. Additionally, he brought up a cipher case in the National Assembly, cautioning against leaking confidential documents that could jeopardize Pakistan.

During his speech, lawmakers from the Sunni Ittehad Council protested, and Bilawal mocked them for their apparent inability to handle criticism, even referring to them as ‘cartoons’ in his remarks. He also drew attention to the dissolution of the assembly just before the vote of no-confidence in 2022, characterizing it as a violation of the constitution. Bilawal stressed the importance of condemning such violations by all.
