Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Bilal bin Saqib as his Special Assistant on Crypto and Blockchain, granting him the status of Minister of State, according to an official notification released on Monday.
This appointment marks a historic first, as it is the first time the federal government has created a dedicated position to oversee the development and regulation of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology in Pakistan.

Bilal bin Saqib is also the CEO of the Pakistan Crypto Council, an organisation advocating for the adoption of digital currencies and blockchain-based systems in governance and finance. He has long called for a robust regulatory framework to foster innovation while ensuring consumer protection.
His appointment is seen as a significant step towards mainstreaming crypto in Pakistan and signals a stronger institutional push for digital finance.
