At Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, the Airport Security Forces (ASF) successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle foreign currency. A passenger, Mohammad Ahmed Ilyas, was found carrying Rs17 million worth of foreign currency—225,000 UAE dirhams and Saudi riyals—hidden in his luggage. The currency was seized during routine checks, and the suspect was handed over to Customs for further investigation.
In a separate incident, a senior flight steward from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Faisal Majeed Pehnwar, was suspended after being caught attempting to smuggle 16 mobile phones from Canada. Customs officials found the phones hidden on his person during a routine check. PIA management acted swiftly, issuing a show-cause notice and instructing Pehnwar to respond to the allegations within three days. The airline emphasized its zero-tolerance policy toward misuse of privileges and smuggling activities.
