The Bengal tiger, a major attraction in Southern Punjab’s zoo, had been a favorite among visitors. The incident raised concerns about animal welfare in captivity, especially after another Bengal tiger at the zoo was recently treated for an eye disease.
Zoo enthusiasts have called on the administration and government to prioritize the health and well-being of animals to prevent similar tragedies.
Bengal tigers in captivity typically live 15-20 years with proper care, whereas in the wild, their lifespan is shorter at 10-15 years due to poaching, scarcity of food, and other challenges.
