Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced an extension in Basant celebrations after witnessing massive public participation and orderly conduct across Lahore. The colorful festival returned after a long gap of 25 years and drew families, youth, and tourists to rooftops and open spaces, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the city.
In her official statement, Maryam Nawaz said Basant festivities will now continue until 5:00 am tomorrow. She described the decision as a reward for citizens who celebrated responsibly and strictly followed safety standard operating procedures issued by the government and local authorities during the celebrations.
The chief minister praised the energy, unity, and joy displayed by the people of Lahore, saying it reflected a collective commitment to making Basant a safe and positive cultural event. She noted that the disciplined behavior of the public played a major role in allowing the government to extend the celebration hours.
Maryam Nawaz urged residents to continue celebrating with care and responsibility during the extended hours. She advised citizens to stay away from electric wires, properly secure rooftops, and strictly follow all safety guidelines to avoid accidents and ensure everyone’s well-being.
She further emphasized that strong public cooperation helped maintain a peaceful environment across the city. The chief minister appealed to citizens to uphold the same level of discipline and awareness, stating that responsible behavior is essential for preserving Basant as a safe cultural tradition.
Meanwhile, Punjab authorities have enforced strict safety measures for the festival. Law enforcement agencies remain deployed across Lahore to ensure public safety, manage crowds, and respond quickly to any untoward incidents during the extended Basant celebrations.
