Authorities in Lahore have issued an important order to ensure flight safety during the upcoming Basant festival. Kite flying has been completely banned in and around Lahore Airport, particularly in areas critical to aircraft take-off and landing at Allama Iqbal International Airport.
Following approval from the provincial cabinet, the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore released an addendum notification enforcing the ban. The move comes based on recommendations from the Pakistan Airports Authority, which highlighted potential risks to aviation operations during Basant due to flying kites.
The ban specifically applies to key zones along the aircraft landing and take-off paths. Areas under the landing zone include Nadirabad, Gulshan-e-Ali Colony, Nishat Colony, Bhatta Chowk, and DHA Lahore Blocks P, Q, R, and S. Meanwhile, regions along the take-off route cover Al-Faisal Town, Joray Pul, Canal Bank Road near Tajpura, and surrounding Tajpura localities.
Kite flying is strictly prohibited in all these designated areas during the Basant celebrations to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of both passengers and aviation staff. Authorities have stressed that violations of the ban will be dealt with firmly under the law.
The notification was issued following legal approval under Section 6(1) of the Punjab Kite Flying Act 2025, giving the government the authority to impose restrictions in sensitive zones. Officials have highlighted that this precaution is essential to avoid any hazards caused by kite strings or flying kites interfering with aircraft operations.
The government has urged citizens and kite enthusiasts to respect the ban in these zones and enjoy Basant celebrations safely in designated areas, while maintaining full compliance with aviation safety guidelines to prevent potential accidents during this festive period.
