Basant Triggers Emergency Alert at 13 Government Hospitals in Lahore

The Punjab Health Department has placed 13 government hospitals in Lahore on high alert ahead of the Basant festival. The festival will be observed from February 6 to February 8. The move aims to ensure public safety and provide timely medical care during Basant-related activities across the city.

According to official directives, all selected hospitals must remain fully operational throughout the festival period. Medical, nursing, and paramedical staff have been instructed to stay available at all times. Hospital administrations have been asked to manage duty rosters carefully to avoid staff shortages during Basant.

The health department has also ordered hospitals to ensure adequate supplies of medicines and emergency equipment. These include drips, vaccines, surgical tools, and first-aid materials. Hospitals have been directed to prepare for possible injuries linked to Basant celebrations, especially those requiring immediate medical attention.

Special emphasis has been placed on blood availability. Hospitals must arrange sufficient blood bags in advance. Lists of voluntary blood donors are also required to be prepared and updated. This step is meant to support emergency treatment during critical situations.

To manage a potential rise in patients, hospitals have been instructed to allocate beds for festival-related emergencies. Emergency wards must remain alert and ready to handle sudden cases during Basant. This measure will help reduce pressure on regular hospital services.

Diagnostic facilities must remain functional without interruption. X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI machines are required to stay fully operational. Technical staff must be on standby to address any equipment issues quickly.

The department has also directed hospitals to maintain active communication systems. Mobile and landline connections must remain functional at all times. This will ensure smooth coordination during emergencies related to Basant.
