Former United States president Barack Obama has won his third Emmy Award, this time in the Outstanding Narrator category. The honor was announced at the 76th Creative Arts Emmy Awards, held on Sunday, 7 September.
Obama, 64, received the award for his narration in the Netflix documentary series Our Oceans. The former president did not attend the Los Angeles ceremony. Comedian Jordan Klepper accepted the award on his behalf.
The category featured tough competition, including Sir David Attenborough for Planet Earth: Asia, Idris Elba for Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Color, Tom Hanks for The Americas, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge for Octopus!.
Obama was confirmed as the narrator of Our Oceans in September 2024, with the series debuting two months later. The five-episode show explored the biodiversity of the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, and Arctic Oceans. Obama’s narration included stories of humpback whales in the Pacific and walruses in the Arctic.
The “Indian Ocean” episode was noted as a significant factor in his win. The series, produced by the creators of Our Great National Parks, used advanced underwater technology to capture rare footage of marine life.
This latest win adds to Obama’s growing list of Emmy honors. He previously won in 2022 for Our Great National Parks and in 2023 for Working: What We Do All Day. His consistent success in narration highlights his ability to connect with audiences through storytelling.
Barack Obama remains one of the few former presidents to achieve repeated recognition in the entertainment industry. His Emmy wins showcase a unique transition from politics to impactful media, blending education, environmental awareness, and compelling narration.
