Bangladesh T20I Captaincy Change Najmul Hossain Shanto Steps Down

In a significant development, Najmul Hossain Shanto has officially stepped down from his role as the captain of Bangladesh’s national T20I team. While the news of his resignation had been circulating online, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has now confirmed the decision.

Shanto had initially planned to relinquish the T20I captaincy after the 2024 World Cup, but after careful consideration, he opted to step down earlier than expected, following the home series against South Africa. The BCB had previously accepted Shanto’s intention to resign but had reappointed him for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, which was disrupted by an injury.

A senior BCB official shared that while Shanto will not continue in the T20I leadership role, he is expected to remain the captain for the Test and ODI formats, pending further discussions and no injury issues. The board has yet to appoint a new T20I captain.

In light of the vacant T20I captaincy, the BCB has named Litton Das as the new leader. Litton, who recently led Bangladesh to a 3-0 series victory over the West Indies, is eager to continue in the role for the long term and is expected to lead the team in future T20I series.
