The government is considering inviting Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman as the chief guest for next month’s Pakistan Day parade. A final decision on the proposed visit is expected next week. Officials say discussions are ongoing regarding the schedule and protocol arrangements.
Sources revealed that Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal recently met the Bangladesh PM during his visit to Dhaka. He attended the oath-taking ceremony of Tarique Rahman on behalf of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. During the meeting, Ahsan Iqbal formally conveyed an invitation from Pakistan’s leadership.
According to officials, the Bangladesh PM responded positively to the invitation. He reportedly expressed interest in strengthening ties between the two countries. However, no final confirmation has been issued yet regarding his attendance at the March 23 parade.
Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Islamabad, Muhammad Iqbal Hussain Khan, also highlighted the importance of closer engagement. He stated that both governments are willing to improve cooperation in different sectors. He added that stronger diplomatic relations would benefit the people of both nations.
In a separate development, diplomatic sources confirmed that the Bangladesh PM has chosen Bhutan for his first official foreign visit. The decision is being viewed as a reciprocal move. Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay attended Rahman’s oath ceremony. He was reportedly the only head of government from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation region present at the event.
If the visit to Pakistan is confirmed, it would mark a significant diplomatic step. The Pakistan Day parade is an important national event held every year on March 23. Participation by the Bangladesh PM would signal renewed engagement between Islamabad and Dhaka.
