Bangladesh Cricket Board Removes Indian Presenter from BPL (1)

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed Indian presenter Ridhima Pathak from the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The decision comes after reviewing evolving circumstances linked to diplomatic and political relations between Bangladesh and India.

Ridhima Pathak, however, stated that her exit was a personal decision. She addressed media reports suggesting political tensions influenced her withdrawal. “For me, my nation comes first, and I consider cricket as an assignment,” she said in a social media statement. Pathak emphasized that she has always served cricket with honesty, respect, and passion, and she will continue her involvement in the sport.

Earlier this season, the Bangladesh Cricket Board had launched an initiative to increase international diversity in the BPL presentation and commentary panel. As part of this plan, Pathak was hosting the league alongside Pakistan’s television personality Zainab Abbas.

The BPL commentary team also featured former Pakistan captain and ex-PCB chairman Ramiz Raja, as well as England cricket legend Darren Gough. The inclusion of international presenters was part of the BCB’s strategy to provide a global perspective to the tournament and enhance its international appeal.

Sources indicate that the Bangladesh Cricket Board later revised this strategy due to the current geopolitical environment. Officials said the decision reflects sensitivity to international participation amid regional diplomatic complexities.

Despite her departure, Ridhima Pathak remains committed to cricket. Observers noted that her exit highlights the challenges sports organizations face when navigating international relations during high-profile tournaments.

The BPL continues its season with a focus on showcasing both domestic and international talent. The league remains committed to maintaining competitive cricket, engaging audiences, and promoting the sport while balancing external diplomatic considerations.
