Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti inaugurated the province’s first Pink Bus Service in Quetta on Wednesday. He described the initiative as a major step toward providing safe and dignified public transport for women.
CM Bugti said the launch complements earlier programs, such as the Pink Scooties initiative, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to women’s empowerment. He emphasized that the Pink Bus Service, along with scholarships and other development projects, aims to expand opportunities for women in all sectors.
During the ceremony, CM Bugti praised the performance of women deputy commissioners across various districts, stating their work demonstrates that women can effectively handle administrative responsibilities.
The chief minister also criticized what he described as “extremist elements” misleading Baloch women and pushing them toward harmful paths. He stressed that the government wants women to focus on education, development, and global opportunities.
CM Bugti announced that the Green Bus Service would soon expand to Pishin, Mastung, and Turbat. Additionally, the government plans to introduce electric buses to meet public transport needs while reducing environmental pollution.
Referring to the Quetta–Sariab Peoples Train Project, the chief minister said the initiative will provide convenience and improve connectivity for local residents.
The Pink Bus Service is designed to ensure women can travel safely and comfortably in public transport, offering a modern and accessible solution to mobility challenges. It also forms part of broader government efforts to promote women’s participation in public life and access to opportunities.
Officials highlighted that the service would operate in major areas of Quetta initially, with potential future expansions to other districts, ensuring women across Balochistan benefit from safer transportation options.
