Balochistan Launches ‘Pink Bus’ Service for Women and Students

Balochistan’s government has launched a dedicated Pink Bus service aimed at providing safe, dignified daily transportation for women and female students in the provincial capital Quetta. The initiative was formally announced at the start of 2026 by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Speaking about the new service, Bugti said the primary goal is to ease long-standing challenges women face while commuting, especially in areas where public transport has been limited or unsafe. He noted the bus service will offer a reliable option for education, work, and access to healthcare facilities — a practical step toward greater social and economic inclusion for women in Balochistan.

Officials emphasised that the Pink Bus service is not a one-off project but part of a broader push to expand women-focused public services. Bugti affirmed the government’s commitment to operate the service on a permanent basis and gradually roll it out to other districts beyond Quetta over the coming months. Many residents responded positively to the launch, welcoming the move as a meaningful effort to improve female mobility and everyday safety in the bustling city.

The inauguration ceremony also highlighted the importance of empowering women and enhancing their participation in social life. During the event, Bugti praised women leaders and reiterated that improved transportation forms a key part of the government’s wider agenda for gender-sensitive reforms and inclusive development.

Observers say the Pink Bus initiative could set a precedent for other regions seeking to provide secure transit options for women and students. Many hope the success of the scheme in Quetta will encourage similar measures in smaller towns and districts across the province, helping to break down barriers to education and employment for female commuters
