The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has initiated steps to implement the National Earthquake Guidelines 2026 following a series of tremors recorded across Balochistan this year.
During a meeting held on Friday, PDMA officials discussed transitioning from a reactive disaster response model to a more scientific and preventive approach to earthquake risk management. Authorities said the initiative is aimed at enhancing preparedness and minimizing potential damage from future seismic events.
According to official data, multiple earthquakes have struck the province in 2026, with magnitudes reaching up to 5.6 on the Richter scale. The tremors primarily affected the districts of Khuzdar, Jhal Magsi, and Jaffarabad.
Seismologists have warned that the recent activity could signal the possibility of stronger aftershocks or significant seismic events in the coming weeks. In response, PDMA has placed all district administrations and rescue agencies on high alert to ensure a swift emergency response if required.
The authority has also directed relevant departments to submit weekly progress reports to monitor effective implementation of the updated earthquake preparedness framework across the province.
Officials stated that the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen disaster management systems, enhance coordination among departments, and improve overall resilience against natural disasters in Balochistan.
