Star batter Babar Azam is being considered for a return to Pakistan’s T20 squad as the PCB evaluates options following Fakhar Zaman’s injury.
Fakhar sustained an injury during the recent T20I series against the West Indies and has been sidelined from both T20 and ODI formats for now. He has been instructed to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore for rehabilitation. His recovery will determine his availability for the Asia Cup 2025, but doubts remain.
In response to Fakhar’s absence, the PCB is weighing Babar Azam’s inclusion in the T20 lineup. His comeback will depend on his performance and fitness during the ongoing ODI series against the Windies. A strong showing could pave the way for his T20 return.
Recently, Babar was seen alongside Mohammad Rizwan and Naseem Shah in a meeting with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi during the second T20I in Lahore, further fueling speculation.
The final squad for the Asia Cup 2025 is expected to be announced in mid-August. The tournament kicks off on September 9, with Group B’s opener between Afghanistan and Hong Kong.
