Azhar Mahmood Named Interim Head Coach of Pakistan Red-Ball Team

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood as the interim head coach of the national red-ball cricket team. The decision, announced on Monday, places Mahmood at the helm until his short-term contract concludes.

The PCB highlighted Mahmood’s previous tenure as assistant head coach and credited his familiarity with the players and deep understanding of the team environment as key reasons behind his promotion. His appointment is aimed at ensuring continuity and stability in the team setup.

“Azhar Mahmood’s presence will be valuable given his vast international and coaching experience,” the board stated. His prior engagements with the national squad and roles in global T20 leagues have strengthened his credentials.

The board has yet to finalize a permanent head coach for the red-ball team. According to insiders, a long-term appointment will be made following the completion of an ongoing evaluation process.
