Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8432, carrying at least 72 passengers, crashed near Aktau in Kazakhstan on Wednesday, as reported by the country’s Emergencies Ministry.
The flight, originally en route from Baku to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya, had been rerouted due to heavy fog in Grozny, according to Russian news agencies. After the crash, the plane caught fire, and emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames.

Initial reports from the Ministry suggest that there are survivors, although the exact number remains unclear. A rescue operation has been mobilized with 52 personnel and 11 units of equipment deployed by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations. Efforts to recover victims and assess the cause of the crash are still ongoing.
Azerbaijan Airlines has yet to issue an official statement, and local authorities continue their investigation into the cause of the crash.
This incident comes just days after a separate crash in southern Brazil, where at least nine people were killed when a small plane crashed in Gramado, slamming into buildings in a commercial area. The plane struck a chimney, collided with the second floor of a house, and then fell onto a furniture store, according to local authorities.
