Ayla Majid Makes History as ACCA's First Pakistani President

Ayla Majid has made history as the first Pakistani and South Asian to be appointed president of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). As a seasoned leader in energy, sustainability, and governance, she will lead over 252,000 members and 526,000 future members in 180 countries during her one-year term.

Majid’s leadership comes as ACCA celebrates its 120th anniversary and has surpassed a quarter of a million members. With over 20 years of experience, including founding Planetive Middle East and Planetive Pakistan, Majid has a strong background in energy, transaction advisory, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. She is also a recognized international speaker on energy, decarbonization, and climate tech, focusing on emerging markets.

In her new role, Majid aims to transform the future of accountancy, making it more dynamic and purposeful, with an emphasis on sustainability and social value. She plans to update perceptions of the profession, particularly as technology becomes more prominent.

Another milestone in her leadership is the fact that, for the first time in ACCA’s history, all three top officer posts are held by women, as she is joined by Deputy President Melanie Proffitt and Vice President Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan.

Majid succeeds Ronnie Patton, who she praised for his inspirational leadership. She holds an MBA from Lahore University of Management Sciences, an LLB (Hons) from the University of London, and has attended leadership courses at prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Oxford, and Princeton Universities.
