Australian PM Anthony Albanese has married his partner Jodie Haydon in a private ceremony at the Lodge. He is the first serving PM in Australia’s history to wed while in office.
The intimate event took place on Saturday afternoon, attended by close family and friends. Albanese’s son Nathan and Haydon’s parents, Bill and Pauline, were among the guests. The couple expressed their joy, stating they were “delighted to share our love and commitment” with family and friends.
A celebrant from NSW Central Coast officiated as the couple exchanged personal vows. Haydon walked down the aisle to Ben Folds’ “The Luckiest,” escorted by her parents. She wore a custom gown from Sydney label Romance Was Born, while the PM wore a suit from MJ Bale. Their wedding rings were crafted by Cerrone Jewellers.
Family played key roles: Haydon’s niece Ella served as flower girl, and their dog Toto carried the rings. Witnesses included Haydon’s brother Patrick and Albanese’s cousin Helen Golden. The couple exited to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” and had their first dance to Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight.” The newlyweds will honeymoon in Australia next week.
The private ceremony followed the final parliamentary sitting of 2025, six months after Albanese won a decisive second term. Notable guests included Treasurer Jim Chalmers, Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Finance Minister Katy Gallagher.
Albanese and Haydon met over five years ago in Melbourne and connected over shared interests. Their relationship grew stronger during the Covid-19 pandemic. The PM proposed on Valentine’s Day 2024 on the Lodge balcony, presenting a bespoke engagement ring.
Haydon works for the NSW Public Service Association and has previously held roles in the superannuation sector. Albanese separated from his former wife, Carmel Tebbutt, in 2019 after nearly 20 years of marriage.
