Australia suffered a setback ahead of their first One Day International (ODI) against India, as Josh Inglis and Adam Zampa were both ruled out of the opening match in Perth.
According to team officials, wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis has been sidelined with a calf strain, while leg-spinner Adam Zampa will miss the game due to personal reasons. Their absence leaves Australia short of key players in both batting depth and spin options.
To cover the losses, Josh Philippe has been called up as the replacement wicketkeeper, while Matt Kuhnemann has been added to strengthen the spin department. Both players are expected to feature in the playing XI for the opening match.
Australia’s coaching staff said they are confident in the replacements, adding that both Philippe and Kuhnemann have performed well in domestic cricket and deserve this opportunity. The team hopes Inglis will recover in time for the third ODI, while Zampa is expected to return for the second game in Adelaide.
Meanwhile, Alex Carey, who was initially named in the squad, will not play the first ODI as he continues domestic commitments before rejoining the team later in the series.
The absence of experienced players like Inglis and Zampa will test Australia’s depth against a strong Indian lineup at home. However, the visitors remain optimistic about maintaining their momentum ahead of the next matches.
The first ODI will take place at Perth Stadium, followed by games in Adelaide and Sydney later this month.
