Australia Introduces Major Revisions To Its Visa System

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]SYDNEY – Australia is set to initiate significant modifications to its visa system, affecting various visa categories. The Department of Home Affairs has officially declared that changes will be implemented in the employer-sponsored/nominated temporary and permanent residence visa programs starting from November 25, 2023.

For the Employer Sponsored Temporary Work Visa (Subclass 482 Visa), the adjustments involve lifting certain restrictions. For instance, the current requirement for short-term stream subclass 482 visa holders to be outside Australia when applying for another short-term stream subclass 482 visa will be permanently eliminated.

Regarding the Employer Nominated Permanent Residence Visa Pathway (Subclass 186 TRT stream), the pathway, currently available to medium-term stream subclass 482 visa holders only, will be extended to all subclass 482 visa holders from November 25th. This includes both short-term and medium-term stream holders.

Under the current rules, eligible subclass 482 visa holders must have worked in their nominated occupation code for at least three out of the last four years to access the subclass 186 visa program under the TRT stream. The impending changes will reduce this minimum employment period to two out of the last three years, applying also to subclass 482 visa holders aged 45 and over seeking an age exemption for a subclass 186 visa based on guaranteed annual earnings.
