This year’s Aurat March in Karachi will take place on May 11, 2025, instead of the usual date of International Women’s Day in March. The organizers made this decision out of respect for the holy month of Ramadan. At a press conference on Women’s Day at the Karachi Press Club, they highlighted that the movement will also address pressing issues such as the missing persons in Balochistan and the ongoing struggles in Palestine and Ukraine.
Social activist, classical dancer, and founder of Tehreek-e-Niswan, Sheema Kirmani, shared that the decision to delay the march was made to accommodate the challenges faced by domestic workers during Ramadan. She explained that many women working in households find it difficult to participate in the march during the holy month. Therefore, May was chosen, as it aligns with Labor Day and International Mother’s Day, recognizing women as the largest workforce in society.

Kirmani emphasized the importance of paying tribute to domestic workers through this year’s Aurat March, acknowledging their struggles and contributions. The organizers hope to continue amplifying the voices of women and workers, while also showing solidarity with global movements fighting for justice and human rights.
The rescheduled march will continue to highlight the core issues faced by women across the country, while expanding its scope to raise awareness on international concerns.
