At the age of 95, after renouncing his billionaire status, Sulaiman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Rajhi, a renowned Saudi entrepreneur, generously divided his wealth, dedicating half to his children and the other half to charitable causes. His philanthropy is primarily executed through the Sulaiman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Rajhi Charitable Foundation, which he established to support a variety of social and humanitarian causes.
Born in 1929 into a poor family, Sulaiman Al Rajhi’s early life was marked by hardship. His strong work ethic led him to pursue several professions, and through determination and perseverance, he rose to become one of the world’s most successful businessmen. Despite his vast wealth, he remained committed to using his resources for the benefit of others.
Initially, his charitable efforts were directed at assisting the needy. However, after consulting with experts and religious scholars, he formalized his giving by establishing a charitable committee in 1983. Today, the foundation supports approximately 1,200 charity projects annually across 13 regions and more than 130 cities in Saudi Arabia. Projects are selected based on the needs of the community.
To sustain his philanthropic endeavors, Sulaiman Al Rajhi transformed a significant portion of his fortune into an endowment, which is regarded as one of the largest in Islamic history. His foundation focuses on supporting non-profit organizations in the educational, health, social, and religious sectors, making it one of the most influential donor institutions in Saudi Arabia.
