Ubisoft’s highly anticipated game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, is set to release on November 15, 2024. Fans of the iconic stealth-based series can now pre-order the game, which promises to take players to the long-requested setting of feudal Japan. This latest installment marks a return to the expansive open-world style after the smaller-scale release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage in 2023.
Initially known as Project Red, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will explore the rich history and culture of 16th-century Japan, offering a vast and immersive game world.

Storyline and Characters
Players will be able to choose between two playable characters, each offering distinct gameplay styles. Naoe, a skilled shinobi from the Iga province, specializes in stealth and agility, while Yasuke, a powerful samurai based on the real historical figure, focuses on direct combat. Though the two characters start out as adversaries, they eventually join forces to shape Japan’s future. Both protagonists will have personal storylines filled with interactions with significant historical figures from the era.
The game is set 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima and 300 years before Rise of the Ronin, building on the popular genre of Japanese historical games.
Gameplay
Though full gameplay details have yet to be revealed, Naoe will offer classic Assassin’s Creed gameplay, including parkour, stealth tactics, and tools like a grappling hook. Her gameplay will emphasize subtlety, using light and sound to outwit enemies. Yasuke’s style, in contrast, will be more action-oriented, with the use of powerful weapons like the katana for fast-paced, direct combat.
A new feature in Shadows is the espionage network mechanic, allowing players to establish a network of allies to uncover new areas and objectives. Players can also customize their own hideout, training allies and expanding their influence as they progress.
Game World
Ubisoft has promised a large, dynamic open world made possible by the Anvil engine and the latest console technology. Players will experience changing weather and seasons, adding a layer of immersion and impact on gameplay. The game world will include castle towns, harbors, scenic villages, and serene landscapes, offering a variety of environments for exploration.
As players advance, the world will evolve, creating a sense of dynamism that Ubisoft aims to make one of the most immersive in the series.
Performance and Display
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is rumored to run at 60FPS across all platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Mac (the latter may require an M2 or M3 chip for optimal performance). Reports suggest that the PS5 Pro will offer the best display quality. With its November release approaching, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is shaping up to be one of Ubisoft’s most ambitious projects in recent years, and fans are eager for the series’ long-awaited journey to feudal Japan.
