Asian Hockey Champions Trophy: Pakistan’s 2-0 lead ends in draw against Malaysia

In the opening match of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2024, Pakistan and Malaysia played to a 2-2 draw in Heilongjiang. Pakistan took an early lead, scoring twice, but missed several opportunities, including more than six penalty corners, which allowed Malaysia to equalize later in the game.

Sufiyan Khan scored the first goal for Pakistan with a penalty corner in the first quarter, followed by Nadeem Ahmed‘s field goal in the second quarter. Malaysia responded with goals in the third and fourth quarters to level the score.

Despite the draw, Pakistan’s captain, Imran Shaikh Butt, was named Player of the Match for his impressive performance.

Pakistan’s next match is against Korea on September 9 at 10:30 AM. The tournament features six teams: India, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Pakistan, and hosts China. A highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan clash is scheduled for September 14, where Pakistan historically leads with 82 wins, but India has won 14 of their last 16 encounters.

The tournament is being played in a round-robin format, with the top four teams moving to the semi-finals, and additional classification matches will decide final rankings for all teams.
