Are Winter Holidays In Punjab Genuinely Extended?

There is currently a circulating notification on social media, allegedly from Punjab’s Higher Education Department, indicating an extension of winter vacations for both public and private institutions until January 14. The notification suggests that classes would resume on January 15, 2024. However, it’s essential to clarify that this notification is fake.

According to the official notification, these educational institutions were scheduled to reopen on January 10, 2024.

In response to the confusion caused by the fake notification, parents, teachers, and students are grappling with misinformation regarding the extension of winter breaks in Punjab colleges.

A consultation meeting conducted by the Higher Education Department aimed to discuss proposals related to extending winter holidays in both public and private educational institutions. The meeting minutes outlined four key proposals:

1. Extension of school holidays for primary schools from January 9 to January 15.
2. Adjustment of school timings from 9 am to 2 pm.
3. Consideration of bringing only those students to school who have annual exams for ninth and tenth grades in March.
4. Deliberation on the extension of winter vacations for all other classes.

It’s crucial for the public to be aware that the January 4 notification circulating on social media is deceptive, and the accurate information is outlined in the December 30, 2023 notification from the Higher Education Department. Any decisions regarding the extension of winter vacations in Punjab’s educational institutions would be based on the outcomes of the consultation meeting and subsequent official announcements from the relevant authorities.
