Are Fuel Prices Going To Rise Again Amid Ongoing Conflict

Amid rising fuel prices and growing public concern, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has dismissed circulating reports claiming a petrol increase to Rs73.40 per litre and diesel to Rs84.95 per litre, calling them misleading and completely baseless.

A spokesperson for OGRA clarified that no summary recommending such hikes has been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office, and urged the public not to trust unverified social media claims, which are fabricated to create confusion.

The denial comes as Pakistan faces ongoing economic strain from the Middle East conflict, which has disrupted global oil supply routes and pushed international prices higher. Recent adjustments already raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs55 per litre, adding to household and business expenses.

Following these increases, petrol now stands at Rs321.17 per litre, a 21 percent jump, while diesel is at Rs335.86 per litre, up 20 percent. Analysts warn that further price shocks could worsen Pakistan’s inflation, which reached 7 percent last month, the highest in 16 months.

Authorities continue to monitor the fuel market closely, coordinating with importers and energy regulators to ensure stable supply while cautioning the public against spreading or believing unverified claims.
