The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named former fast bowler Aqib Javed as the interim head coach of the men’s team ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Aqib, a veteran figure in Pakistan cricket, will lead the squad during this critical phase, including their campaign in the eight-team tournament.

As interim head coach, Aqib will also retain his position on the National Selection Committee and is expected to take on further responsibilities after the tournament. Meanwhile, the PCB has announced plans to conduct a global search for a permanent white-ball head coach, aiming for an appointment before the Champions Trophy begins on February 19.

This development follows Gary Kirsten’s resignation as white-ball head coach, leaving a leadership gap temporarily filled by red-ball coach Jason Gillespie during Pakistan’s Australia tour. Gillespie will now return to his red-ball coaching duties for the Test series against South Africa.

In preparation for the Champions Trophy, Pakistan’s schedule includes a Zimbabwe series (Nov 24–Dec 5), a South Africa series (Dec 10–22), and an ODI triangular series with New Zealand and South Africa (Feb 8–14). Aqib’s leadership will be pivotal in shaping a competitive team for the global event.
