Apple’s iOS 18.2 Update Lets iPhone Users Set WhatsApp as Default for Calls and Messages

Apple’s latest iOS 18.2 update introduces a groundbreaking feature for iPhone users: the ability to set third-party apps like WhatsApp as the default option for making calls and sending messages. This change marks a significant shift in how users can customize their iPhone experience.

With WhatsApp’s new update, users can now make it their primary communication app, bypassing Apple’s Phone and iMessage apps. By setting WhatsApp as the default, users can make calls and send messages directly through WhatsApp whenever they tap on a phone number.

To enable this feature:

  1. Update your iPhone to iOS 18.2.
  2. Go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps.
  3. Select WhatsApp as your default app for calls and messaging.

Initially, Apple introduced this flexibility to comply with European Union regulations but has now made it available to users worldwide. In addition to calls and messaging, iOS 18.2 allows default apps for email, web browsing, and other functions like translations and password management.

The new feature is rolling out to all WhatsApp users, so make sure your app is updated to the latest version to start using it as your default communication platform.
