Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Program Latest Update

Owning a home has long been an unattainable goal for millions amid rising economic pressures, but the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar initiative is now turning that dream into reality. The program envisions housing that reflects Pakistan’s traditional joint family culture—homes with shared kitchens and courtyards where families can live together under one roof—while making ownership achievable for ordinary citizens.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has transformed this vision into a bold housing reform. By expanding Apni Chhat Apna Ghar to include joint families, the government has launched large-scale construction, introduced interest-free financing, and begun allocating land to those who previously owned none.

From Jhelum to Lodhran, the provincial government is driving a housing movement that goes beyond brick and mortar. The expanded scheme is specifically designed to protect and promote the centuries-old joint family system, enabling families to build shared living spaces through affordable, interest-free loans offered on easy installments. The Chief Minister personally approved this expansion, calling it a landmark moment in Punjab’s housing journey.

The targets are ambitious: 160,000 new homes are scheduled for completion by June this year. Additionally, under the Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar component, landless citizens will receive plots along with interest-free loans to build their homes.

To fast-track implementation, CM Maryam Nawaz ordered increased funding and convened high-level meetings with the Housing Secretary and DG PHATA. Officials reported that the program has attracted over 1.88 million registrations, with more than 1.06 million formal applicants.

So far, 67,197 homes have been completed, while 53,843 are currently under construction. Loans totaling Rs. 164.66 billion have been disbursed, achieving an impressive 99% recovery rate—highlighting the program’s transparency and effectiveness.

The Chief Minister has also directed timely release of second installments and ordered the formulation of a support policy for families in case a beneficiary passes away. Widely praised as Punjab’s most transformative housing initiative, Apni Chhat Apna Ghar aims to redefine homeownership, reinforce family values, and deliver lasting security across the province.
