The Pakistani government has launched the ‘Apna Meter, Apni Reading’ initiative via the Power Smart App, enabling electricity users to submit their own meter readings.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the move, aiming to reduce overbilling and errors by allowing consumers to upload a photo of their electricity meter each month. If submitted on the designated date, this reading will override any taken later by utility staff.

The Power Division described the system as a step toward minimizing billing disputes and manual errors, especially benefiting low-consumption users who rely on government subsidies. With accurate readings, consumers can avoid losing their subsidy due to even minor unit overages. The Power Smart App is now available for download with a user-friendly interface that supports transparency and consumer control.
