Pakistan is likely to feature in another tri-nation series in early 2026, alongside Australia and potentially Bangladesh, with the tournament expected to take place in February ahead of the T20 World Cup.
A source from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the possibility, highlighting Australia’s tradition of touring the subcontinent before major ICC events for better preparation. For instance, Australia visited Bangladesh for a T20I series in 2021 and toured Sri Lanka this year ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.
Since India and Sri Lanka will host the upcoming T20 World Cup, Australia is set to play three T20Is against Pakistan. However, talks are in progress to turn the bilateral series into a tri-nation competition by including Bangladesh.
While no official offer has been made yet by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), informal discussions have taken place during the ongoing Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Dhaka. The PCB reportedly wants to include Bangladesh due to improving ties between the two boards.
A formal discussion is expected between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul during the ACC Annual General Meeting on July 24–25. Naqvi, who also serves as ACC President, is already in Dhaka for the event.
If agreed upon, the tri-series would consist of seven matches, with each team playing the others twice, followed by a final.
Additionally, similar talks are underway to expand Pakistan’s scheduled T20I series against Afghanistan into a tri-nation tournament. Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) Chairman Mirwais Ashraf has confirmed discussions about including the UAE as the third team and host. The proposed series would help Afghanistan prepare for the upcoming ACC Men’s Asia Cup later this year
