Amazon has announced plans to hire 250,000 workers across the United States ahead of the busy holiday shopping season. The company said the new positions will include both full-time and part-time roles in fulfillment centers and transportation departments.
According to the company, this hiring drive matches the level of recruitment seen in previous years, showing Amazon’s confidence in continued consumer demand. Most workers will earn an average wage of around $19 per hour, while certain full-time and part-time roles with additional benefits will pay up to $23 per hour.
Amazon also said it will invest more than $1 billion this year to raise wages and improve healthcare options for its U.S. logistics workforce. The company emphasized that these new roles are essential to meet rising online shopping demand and to ensure faster delivery during the upcoming festive season.
The hiring campaign comes as the U.S. job market remains stable, though some companies have slowed recruitment. Amazon’s large-scale hiring suggests that e-commerce activity is still strong despite global economic uncertainty and inflation concerns.
These seasonal workers will support Amazon’s operations from October through early January, a period that includes Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas sales. The company is also focusing on expanding automation and logistics technology to make deliveries more efficient during this peak season.
Industry experts say Amazon’s move will help stabilize the short-term job market and offer flexible employment opportunities to many part-time workers. The initiative also highlights Amazon’s continued efforts to maintain its lead in global online retail.
