The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced a major plan to make all airports across the country fully cashless. Under this initiative, passengers and staff will be able to pay for all services using digital payment systems, eliminating the need for cash transactions.
The authority plans to introduce QR code-based payment systems in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan. This system will cover all airport services, including shops, restaurants, and other vendors, ensuring smooth and secure transactions for travelers.
The rollout of the cashless system will occur in two phases. The first phase will focus on major airports, including Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore, with QR-based payments expected to start in the coming weeks. The second phase will extend the system to airports in Faisalabad, Multan, Sialkot, and eventually to all regional airports nationwide.
A PAA spokesperson explained that this initiative is part of a larger effort to digitize airport operations and support Pakistan’s national fintech vision, which promotes contactless, traceable, and secure financial transactions. The system will enhance convenience, improve transparency, and reduce the risk of fraud at airports.
Officials highlighted that adopting a cashless system will streamline operations and provide a faster, more efficient experience for passengers. By making airports fully digital, travelers can expect quicker service while vendors benefit from simplified payment processes.
The PAA emphasized that the cashless system aligns with global trends in airport management and modernizes Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure. The initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving airport facilities and enhancing the overall travel experience.
