The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) confirmed that all 24 Pakistanis aboard an LPG tanker, along with the rest of the crew, are safe following a fire near Yemen’s coast. The incident occurred on September 17 when an Israeli drone struck the tanker while it was docked at Ras al-Esa port, controlled by the Houthis. One LPG tank exploded, but the crew managed to extinguish the fire.
Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi said the vessel, which also had two Sri Lankans and one Nepali on board, was briefly detained by Houthi boats before being released. Pakistani authorities, including the embassy in Oman, Ministry of Interior officials, and security teams in Saudi Arabia, coordinated to secure the crew’s safe release.
The tanker has now left Yemeni waters. Families were kept informed throughout the ordeal, and the minister expressed gratitude to all involved in the rescue, concluding with “Pakistan Hamesha Zindabad.”
