Wasim Akram Hopes for Revival of Pakistan-India Cricket, Praises Emerging PSL Talent
Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has reiterated that the resumption of bilateral cricket ties between Pakistan and India depends entirely on government decisions, while expressing hope that the cricketing rivalry between the two nations will be restored.
Speaking to the media in Karachi on Monday, the legendary left-arm pacer said, “We all want to see Pakistan-India cricket again, but it’s up to the governments to take the final call. I can’t say much beyond that.”
Encouraging Signs from PSL Emerging Players
Turning his attention to domestic cricket, Akram praised the impressive performances of young players in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. He highlighted emerging talents such as Hassan Nawaz, Ali Raza, and Salman Mirza as promising prospects.

“It’s a positive sign for Pakistan cricket. If players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, or Shaheen Afridi miss a couple of games, it’s no problem — our bench strength is growing,” Akram noted.
He also stressed that senior players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan continue to be crucial pillars for the national team, with plenty of cricket still ahead for them.
Optimism Ahead of Asia Cup and World Cup
With major tournaments like the Asia Cup and ICC World Cup on the horizon, Akram urged fans to maintain optimism and support the team. “There is still time before the big tournaments. We need to back the players and management,” he said.
Praise for PCB’s Role in Promoting Cricket
Wasim Akram also commended the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for successfully organizing the PSL, which has provided a valuable platform for young talent to showcase their skills. “Everyone involved in bringing back the PSL deserves appreciation. The way PCB and other officials worked behind the scenes was commendable,” he added.
