Airports in Lahore, Sialkot, Karachi, and Islamabad Closed Once Again

Airspace Temporarily Closed at Major Airports in Pakistan Amid Rising Regional Tensions

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI/LAHORE/SIALKOT — In a significant development, four of Pakistan’s major airports — Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, and Sialkot — have temporarily suspended commercial flight operations due to ongoing regional tensions, airport sources confirmed early Thursday morning.

According to a newly issued Notice to Airmen (Notam), multiple air routes in the affected cities have been closed until 12 noon today for operational reasons. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is actively coordinating with local airport authorities to monitor the situation and ensure passenger safety.

“Several air routes within Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, and Sialkot have been closed for commercial flights,” the Notam stated.

Flight Diversions and Delays

The temporary airspace restrictions have already impacted several Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights. A PIA flight from Medina destined for Lahore was diverted to Karachi, while another flight from Multan to Lahore was also rerouted to Karachi due to operational disruptions.

One affected flight was originally scheduled to land in Lahore at 4:15 AM, but could not proceed due to the sudden closure of airspace.

Islamabad Flights Require ATC Approval

Departures and arrivals at Islamabad International Airport are now subject to prior clearance from Air Traffic Control (ATC). Passengers are advised to contact Islamabad ATC before planning their travel.

PAA Statement Reassures Public

Contrasting Thursday’s closures, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) had earlier reassured the public on Wednesday that all airports across the country were fully operational, with no disruption in local or international flight services. A PAA spokesperson had emphasized the smooth operation of air traffic, including the resumption of services at Sialkot International Airport, which had seen a brief halt.

“Air operations have resumed at Sialkot, and all international flights will proceed as per schedule,” the spokesperson confirmed.

Travel Advisory

Airport officials are urging travelers to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates and changes. Passengers are also advised to avoid unnecessary travel until flight schedules are normalized.
