Air India has warned of potential flight disruptions after one of its Airbus A350 aircraft sustained engine damage on Thursday. The incident occurred when the plane encountered a foreign object while taxiing in dense fog in New Delhi.
The affected aircraft was operating a long-haul route to New York. It had to return to New Delhi after Iran temporarily closed its airspace, causing further operational challenges. The closure, which lasted nearly five hours, forced several airlines to cancel, reroute, or delay flights. Iran has now reopened its airspace.
Air India operates six Airbus A350s on major international routes, including New Delhi to London, New York, and Newark. With one aircraft grounded for repairs, the airline warned that select A350 routes may face delays or disruptions.
“The aircraft is currently grounded for a thorough investigation and necessary repairs,” an Air India spokesperson said. The airline did not disclose additional details about the foreign object or the specific routes affected.
The airline emphasized that safety is its top priority and that repair work will be carried out as quickly as possible. Passengers on impacted flights are advised to check their flight status and follow updates provided by Air India.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by airlines operating high-demand long-haul routes, where technical issues or temporary airspace restrictions can create widespread disruptions.
Air India is coordinating with airport authorities and maintenance teams to minimize the impact on passengers. The airline continues to monitor the situation and is working to restore normal operations across its A350 fleet as soon as possible.
