The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced that its national team will not take part in the upcoming tri-nation cricket series in Pakistan, citing rising political tensions between the two neighboring countries.
In an official statement, the ACB said that given the current strained relations, Afghanistan has decided not to send its team to Pakistan for the series, which was set to feature Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. The decision marks another setback in sporting ties between the two nations, which have been affected by recent diplomatic frictions and security concerns.
The tri-nation series was scheduled to begin on November 17 in Rawalpindi with Pakistan facing Afghanistan in the opening match. Two more games, including one involving Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, were also planned in the same city, while the remaining fixtures and the final were to be hosted at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on November 29.
Following Afghanistan’s withdrawal, the future of the series remains uncertain. Organizers may now be forced to revise the schedule or consider a bilateral format. The cancellation underscores how regional political tensions continue to spill over into sports, affecting collaborative cricket events in South Asia
