5.8 magnitude Earthquake struck Afghanistan on Friday evening, causing loss of life and damage in several areas. The Taliban government confirmed that at least eight people were killed in the incident. The Earthquake hit Bagram district, located around 60 kilometers from Kabul.
According to officials, the Earthquake occurred at a depth of 181 kilometers. Such deep quakes usually cause limited destruction. However, the impact was severe in some المناطق due to weak infrastructure and housing conditions.
In the Ghusfandara area of Bagram, a residential house collapsed during the Earthquake. The incident resulted in the death of an entire family. The victims included a father, mother, four daughters, and two sons. This tragic loss has highlighted the vulnerability of rural communities.
Provincial spokesperson Hafiz Basharat explained that many homes in the region are built with mud bricks. These structures are not strong enough to withstand seismic activity. As a result, even a moderate Earthquake can lead to serious damage in such areas.
The tremors were not limited to Afghanistan alone. The Earthquake was also felt in neighboring countries. Residents in Islamabad, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan reported shaking. In addition, areas of Indian-administered Kashmir experienced the tremors.
Authorities are currently assessing the damage in affected مناطق. Emergency teams have been alerted to respond if further assistance is required. Officials are also monitoring the situation closely to ensure public safety.
Experts say that Afghanistan is prone to seismic activity due to its location. Frequent Earthquake events in the region often pose risks to communities. Poor construction standards further increase the potential for damage.
