Adobe is set to introduce a generative AI-powered video creation tool by the end of this year

Adobe is set to launch a new AI-driven video creation and editing tool later this year in a limited release, the company announced on Wednesday. This move is part of Adobe’s efforts to enhance its suite of tools for creative professionals.

Named Adobe Firefly Video Model, this AI tool will initially be available in beta and will join Adobe’s current Firefly applications, which already enable users to generate images, designs, and vector graphics.

With this new model, Adobe aims to strengthen its position in the expanding market for AI-powered video creation tools. This space is currently being explored by OpenAI’s Sora, Stability AI’s Stable Video Diffusion, and other emerging AI video platforms from smaller companies.

According to Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s vice president of generative AI, the tool can create a five-second video clip from a single prompt and can understand both text and image-based instructions. Users can also specify camera angles, panning, motion, and zoom.

“We’ve invested heavily in ensuring that this model delivers the quality and prompt interpretation that videographers expect. We’ve focused on respecting the creative input from videographers more than other AI video models,” Costin shared in an interview with Reuters.

Adobe emphasized that the model is trained using public domain content or licensed material, not customer data. “We exclusively use the Adobe Stock library, which includes 400 million curated images, illustrations, and videos, ensuring that no intellectual property, trademarks, or recognizable characters are involved,” said Costin.

Additionally, Adobe is introducing Generative Extend, a feature within its Premiere Pro video editing software. This tool can extend an existing video clip by two seconds by generating suitable footage to fill gaps. Initially previewed in April, the tool has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from Adobe’s customers, Costin added.
