'Adenovirus': New Virus Emerges In Karachi Due To Changing Weather

Karachi, the southern port city of Pakistan, has witnessed an increase in reported cases of a new virus associated with changes in weather. Dr. Halar Shaikh, the Registrar at Jinnah Hospital, expressed concerns about the heightened risk of the adenovirus spreading in Karachi. The adenovirus typically manifests with symptoms such as a cold, cough, flu and fever. While individuals affected by the virus usually recover within two to three days with complete rest, Dr. Halar emphasized the importance of taking precautions.

He highlighted that the adenovirus poses a threat to individuals of all ages throughout the year. Dr. Halar specifically recommended that elderly individuals, as well as those with asthma and diabetes, should be cautious about this virus. In some cases, adenovirus infection can progress to pneumonia, especially when individuals lack immunity or fail to take necessary precautions.

To mitigate the risk of adenovirus transmission, Dr. Halar Shaikh proposed preventive measures. He advised the public to refrain from handshakes as a preventive measure to curb the spread of the virus. Additionally, he cautioned against consuming food from outside during this season. These precautions aim to reduce the likelihood of infection and protect vulnerable populations from the adverse effects of the adenovirus.

It’s important for the community to stay vigilant and adopt preventive practices, particularly in the face of emerging health challenges associated with changing weather patterns in Karachi.
