Pakistan has launched a major national initiative to promote AI education among youth, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Prime Minister’s Office. The programme, named ACT AI (Awareness, Competency & Tools Training for Artificial Intelligence), aims to equip students with modern digital skills.
The MoU was signed under the leadership of Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan. With the agreement now finalized, the ACT AI programme has entered its operational phase. Universities across the country have activated focal persons, and student registrations are currently open through the official portal.
Officials confirmed that a national launch event will soon mark the formal start of training. The first batch of students is expected to begin classes in the coming weeks. Each cohort will run for eight weeks, with new batches starting every two months to ensure continuous outreach.
The programme is being offered free of cost. It also focuses on inclusivity, aiming for equal participation of male and female students. Importantly, students from diverse academic backgrounds can apply, not just those in computer science.
ACT AI is a joint effort involving the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, National Vocational and Technical Training Commission, Higher Education Commission, and AXI Technologies through its subsidiary AI SkillBridge. This collaboration highlights a strong public-private partnership to expand AI learning in Pakistan.
Under this initiative, up to 6,000 students will be trained in each cohort. The programme will cover around 100 universities across all provinces, including Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The goal is to create a nationwide impact in AI education.
The training will focus on practical and job-ready skills. Students will learn about generative AI, automation tools, and real-world applications. The programme also includes modules on economic empowerment and future trends in AI.
Classes will be delivered through live sessions from Islamabad using the HEC Smart Classroom network. This ensures equal access to quality education for students across the country.
Officials say ACT AI is Pakistan’s first coordinated national-level AI training programme at universities. It is designed to prepare students for careers in freelancing, entrepreneurship, and the global digital economy.
