Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has confirmed that Mahmood Khan Achakzai will be notified as opposition leader in National Assembly by Thursday. Speaking to the media in the National Assembly on Tuesday, Barrister Gohar said Achakzai’s nomination papers have been submitted. Verification is expected to be completed by Wednesday.
Achakzai is also the chairman of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) and chief of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan. So far, only one nomination has been made for the opposition leader post.
Barrister Gohar emphasized that PTI has no internal forward bloc. He reaffirmed that Imran Khan remains the party’s chairman. “Khan Sahib was, he is, and will be the PTI chairman,” he said. He added that no political decision or apex committee can override Khan Sahib’s authority. PTI’s leadership remains unified under Imran Khan despite ongoing political developments.
The appointment of Achakzai as opposition leader in the National Assembly is expected to strengthen parliamentary proceedings. Analysts say his experience could help coordinate debates and hold the government accountable.
Political observers note that the move comes at a critical time for the National Assembly. Achakzai’s leadership is likely to shape opposition strategies in upcoming legislative sessions.
Barrister Gohar highlighted that PTI continues to maintain party discipline while respecting alliances with smaller parties like PkMAP. This collaboration ensures smooth coordination on key legislative matters.
