The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has suspended four state cricketers over corruption allegations during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025 in Lucknow.
The players—Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi, and Abhishek Thakuri—are accused of attempting to influence their teammates. This prompted both a BCCI investigation and a police FIR.
ACA Secretary Sanatan Das said the suspension was necessary “to prevent further deterioration of the situation.” The players are barred from participating in any state-level tournaments, ACA-affiliated club matches, and other cricket-related activities, including coaching and officiating. District cricket associations have been asked to enforce the order strictly.
FIR and BCCI Investigation
Following the allegations, an FIR was filed with the Crime Branch in Guwahati. The charges claim that the players tried to manipulate teammates during Assam’s SMAT 2025 campaign, which ran from November 26 to December 8.
The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) conducted an initial inquiry and found prima facie evidence of serious misconduct. Das said the actions “affect the integrity of the sport” and warranted immediate suspension by the ACA.
Assam’s team did not progress to the Super League stage of SMAT 2025. The controversy has placed the squad under closer scrutiny. The ACA emphasized that the suspension aims to protect the integrity of Assam cricket while investigations continue.
“Prima facie, there appears to be involvement in serious misconduct affecting the sport,” Das added. The ACA has also alerted clubs and cricket academies to comply with the suspension order without exception.
