A deeply tragic video is circulating on social media showing the moments before a deadly attack on police officers in Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan. In the video, the officers, who were later martyred in an attack by dacoits, discuss the possibility of their martyrdom with a mix of somberness and dark humor. One officer, jokingly passing a rifle to his colleague, mentions, “It seems our last moments have arrived,” hinting at the danger they were about to face. The officers were on their way to a dangerous assignment in the kacha area, a region known for its perilous conditions, where, as they remarked, “no one would dare go there even in daylight.”

The video was recorded just moments before the officers were ambushed by dacoits who fired rockets at them. In the attack, which occurred in the riverine kacha area, 12 officers were martyred, including one of the officers seen in the video. The constable named Abrar, who is seen in the video, was severely injured during the attack.

The Punjab police later announced that the main suspect behind the attack was killed in a retaliatory operation. This incident highlights the ongoing violence in the kacha areas, notorious for organized criminal activity, including kidnap-for-ransom operations that have plagued the region for decades. The attack took place as the officers were returning to Rahim Yar Khan for a weekly holiday when their vehicle became stuck in stagnant floodwater. Seizing the opportunity, the dacoits launched their attack, resulting in the deaths of 12 officers and leaving two others injured, with four initially reported missing.
A coordinated operation involving Punjab and Sindh police forces, with 320 personnel from Punjab and additional support from Sindh, was launched in response to the attack. The tragic loss of these officers underscores the extreme risks faced by law enforcement in such volatile regions.
